Do you want to be an advocate for climate work:
- Pitch your friends on the idea of switching careers into climate?
- Pitch your coworkers on starting a climate-concerned employee group?
- Pitch your leadership on ways your company could help climate?
Look no further! We're a community of people determined to help others advocate for this, and we have a library of slide decks and best practices that should help you.
How to use this, as an advocate?
- Join the Work on Climate Slack and say hi on the #proj-wocl-deck channel. Add the biweekly meet to your calendar.
- Browse the decks people have created, Mix and match to make your own, Share yours if there's something in it that others could borrow.
- Feel free to ask people on the channel for help: "Hey, can people look at my deck" / "Hey, can I have a dry run" etc.
Best practices for advocates
- Include a clear call to action - idle info sessions are not going to cut it!
- Follow up with folks via email. If you don't already have their emails, ask them to give you that info, even if they have to write it on a sheet of paper! The follow up email will ask them to visit our centralized google form (draft here) where we track the various pitches and the results / actions that have resulted.
- Pick the right deck for your audience (see below table of templates). Customize / mix and match content from different decks at will!
- Rehearse. Do it in front of a mirror if you must, but friends or family members are better as they can give you invaluable feedback on your energy and body language.
Go for it!
MOST IMPORTANT: don't forget to follow up with emails. We want to measure the effectiveness of this program and that's how it'll happen.
FAQ
What's the best format to share? Something that's easy to reuse for others. Google Slides probably optimal. Share with "comment by link" access please.
